Bedtime is an all-hands-on-deck situation in our house. When eight o’clock hits, there are several minutes of full-on chaos with children running around half-dressed, diffusers to fill, sound machines to turn on, and teeth to brush. I’m sure it looks the same at your house. There is so much commotion. Once we get everyone ready we pile on our oldest son’s bed to read a Bible story. We get two sentences into the story only to be interrupted because one child still needs a drink of water and the ... Read More about His Quiet Whisper
Keep Saying Yes to God’s Calling
We live in a culture that is very protective of their yeses. There is an encouragement to say no to obligations and commitments so that we can better serve those that we already have. We are taught that our "yes" is much more powerful when preceded by a handful of "nos." It is embedded throughout our whole culture, but especially in Christian circles. I haven’t spoken much to our experience there because it has been clouded by the abrupt following of God back home, but our time in Guatemala truly changed the way that I view missionaries, and I think some of them are valuable lessons for all of us as we do life among those that serve abroad. We were only on Guatemalan soil for a little over six months, but ... Read More about Things You May Not Know About the Missionaries in Your Circle

I was given a lot of advice while I was pregnant with my firstborn, but no one warned me about the initial time commitment and intensity of nursing a newborn. I was so totally unprepared when my oldest was born. I knew nothing of cluster feeds and the fourth trimester where the baby still constantly needs Mommy's presence through nursing. Add in a month worth of weight gain issues, poor advice from Auggie's first pediatrician, and an undiagnosed lip tie, and it didn't take long before I gave ...
